Day 14, Gilleleje to Copenhagen, 34nm

Wednesday, 17 July

We left peaceful Gilleleje with our bellies full of prawns and motored on a very flat sea with grey skies to Copenhagen.

We passed Helsigør castle and the sun came out!

We avoided the very regular, enormous ferries to Sweden!

Occasionally the wind tempted us and hit 7 knots as a rain cloud burst, but mostly it was 2-3 knots on the nose so no use to us.

We enjoyed the views through the sound between industrial Sweden to port and pretty Denmark to starboard. We were very excited to see porpoises off the stern more than once!

Sorry we didn’t get a picture of the porpoises!

We moored onto our first box mooring in Tuborg marina (where the beer comes from)

and were delighted to welcome our new crew – my daughter Frances and Olivia, who flew in from Heathrow faster than it took us to come 40 miles round the corner! Yachts are not for speed freaks.

Ready crew for La Bamba!

We were recommended this marina by the crew of ‘Wildrosa’, our neighbours back in Henån harbour, whose home this is, because it is quiet and has a wonderful restaurant. Obviously we had to check it out and it was extremely good. We all had the fish of the day!

We will be glad to have 5 on the boat. Sunny skies and pleasant winds are forecast for tomorrow.
