Monday 8 July

This morning various yard folk came by to do a few snagging jobs that needed sorting while we await our gooseneck. We now have heating again although the forecast is for warmer weather thankfully!
In the afternoon we welcomed Alex and Sam as our first crew. Sam crewed with David in the Clipper race and went all the way round the world in ‘ Qingdao’; and Alex is my nephew who has sailed dinghies, but La Bamba is his first yacht – what a good one to start on!

It was raining heavily when they arrived but soon the sun came out and we walked down to the bathing area for a chilly swim.

We didn’t notice the jelly fish until they gently bumped us. No sting thankfully, but rather disconcerting to suddenly feel something like ectoplasm in the cold dark water!

Sam had kindly brought us a proper ensign; David had been very disappointed with me for getting one that was way too small. Apparently it’s important to have a jolly big ensign….

Then we blessed La Bamba and all who sail in her, with some bubbles for us, the boat and for Neptune / Poseidon.

It is so lovely to have such eager crew to join us on our Odyssey! They are already keen to learn all La Bamba can teach them.
