Limericks June/July 2025

Just when you thought you were safe….

On the Solent we checked out our reefs

Then in Newtown we moored in the creek

Saw a comedy seal

And a sunset -surreal!

So tempting to stay for a week

There are lots of boats parked down the Hamble

Fish at The Bugle is well worth the ramble

But Survival at Sea

Seems quite scary to me

Though I still think it’s well worth the gamble!

Near Studland we decided to tarry

To enjoy the fine rocks of Old Harry

We swam in the sea

Booked the Pig for our tea

And ate that all our bellies could carry

In Weymouth the beach is so sandy

And restaurants several and handy

The town is so charming

Restful and calming

To come back again would be dandy!

At Dartmouth we met up with friends

Had lunch and cruised to both ends

Up to Dittisham town

Then all the way down

What a great way to spend the weekend

To Guernesey the waves were quite scary

And we brought along Penelope Mary

The dolphins jumped high

There were squalls by and by

And La Bamba flew light as a fairy

In St Peter Port we rested awhile

(Our sail here was 80 odd mile)

Met Penny’s old chum

Enjoyed the museum

Awaiting the sun gods to smile

To Jersey we glided in fog

As thick as an old Irish bog

Guernsey-man Andy

On the helm was quite handy

And was glad as a tail-wagging dog

On Jersey we went to the zoo

Saw hoards and an ancient tomb too

The marina was brill

Clear signs on the sill

The crab sarnies were tickety-boo

In Alderney there’s a bit of a swell

Oh yes, we remembered it well

But this island’s so dear

With rock-pools so clear

And wild cliffs where we saw the kestrel

In Cherbourg they messed up our mooring

And Brexit is terribly boring

It’s good if it’s rough

But we’ve had enough

And we’re leaving first thing in the morning!

St Vaast is as pretty as can be

With oysters grown off in the sea

I ate them each meal

With relish and zeal

So glad we draw just two point three

  1. Your blogs are so utterly charming
They make even rough seas seem disarming
    With ports close to hand
    And good food on land
It makes sailing away less alarming!
