Like everyone else in Holland we decided to stay in Terschelling to get over our journey and see what all the fuss is about!

We are part of a huge flotilla of boats taking the opportunity of a flat sea and hopefully an Easterly wind to get us to Terschelling without going through the washing machine!

After a rather sleepless night we got ready to go after a barge had looked like it wanted to moor where we were berthed.
We saw other yachts heading for the open lock but there was an enormous ship slowly coming down so we ducked behind it to rush over before the lock closed.

The Kiel Canal is the busiest man-made waterway and connects the South-West corner of the Baltic to the North Sea.
Saturday, 27 July
We have decided to stay here another night so we can go into the canal on Sunday, which should line us up for a North Sea passage to Terschelling on Tuesday as that’s when conditions are looking best.

Despite a forecast of heavy rain and gusty winds, the day looked fair and we set off to Kiel in a steady breeze of 10-12 knots mainly from the South which was a very friendly direction as we could enjoy an easy reach instead of the usual beating into the wind.
