Limericks – France

No I haven’t forgotten the limericks! Enjoy:

We were waved off the dock before dawn

With crew both of beauty and brawn

The sea was quite lumpy

And Lily was jumpy

Then the wind died and left us forlorn

They told us that ‘Jersey is shit’

And Cherbourg was never a hit

So it’s to Guernsey we’re going

The timing? Not knowing

Cos the wind isn’t doing its bit

To Roscoff we sailed through the night

The winds were disappointingly light

After dawn they filled in

And we spotted the fin

Of some dolphins which gave us delight

Leaving Roscoff when tide would allow

It’s all champagne sailing right now

Lily’s flying high

The suns in the sky

And dolphins are racing our bow!

Aber-wrach’s river is busy

So many craft make me feel dizzy

After such a great sail

We never could fail

To open something cooling and fizzy

We got lily flying up high

So beautifully pink in the sky

First we had two

Then 5 in the blue

Then a dozen! – these dolphins aren’t shy!

After gybing the Chanel du four

Camaret is the bay we looked for

We swam in the sea

I had sardines for tea

We’re enjoying this Brittany shore

They said Benodet wasn’t too clean

So we moored up in Sainte Marine

Had pizza and wine

A really good time

This setting is simply serene!

Concarneau has very thick walls

And it’s teaming with masses of Gauls

We ate razor clams

And bought more Kouign-Amanns

Sadly this is Marks last port of call

We anchored off lovely Belle Île

David made us a fine pasta meal

Wind blew in the night

But we were alright

This shelter is simply ideal

Île de Yeu is off the port bow

We’re dodging the wind farms right now

Winds picked up to 20

For Lily that’s plenty

So we got her down any old how

We kept France on the port side

That broach was quite a fun ride

We felt really swell

In fine La Rochelle

But the catamarans are far too wide!

La Rochelle is a port out of time

With smart white stone streets – really fine

We enjoyed every view

Great restaurants too

And La Bamba was cleared of her grime

And we had a wonderful guest limerick from my sister Joannah:

Without paint nor crayons nor ink

And before it was time for a drink

When they spotted Lily

The dolphins went silly

Calling: ‘Wow, race this prow and turn pink!’

What can I say? It’s all in the genes!
