Morro Jable, Fuerteventura
Friday 6 November

There’s no wind today so we are staying put – a nice wind is forecast for Saturday so we’ll use that to cross over to Gran Canaria.
David and Sam put the chafing patches on the main – this is to protect the sail when it rests on the shrouds as we go downwind, and we are expecting a lot of downwind sailing when we cross the Atlantic!

It was a long and tricky job as some of the patches refused to stick and they all need to be in exactly the right place.

Meanwhile Kevin found some more birds including the rare spectacled warbler, lovely monk parrots, redstart, egret, hoopoe, and sandwich tern

And a very cute and friendly Barbary ground squirrel all of which are apparently descended from a pair that escaped in the 1960s (!)

And I went for a lovely swim off the beautiful sandy beach – fish swam in the shallows.

When I got back to the boat the boys were still slaving away demonstrating the necessary skills of patience and determination.

Sam and Kevin went into town for a meal, while I had an early night as my headache came back. However I am feeling so much better and David seems to be improving too.
