Gran Tarajal to Morro Jable, 26nm
Thursday 5 November

As predicted there is absolutely no wind, but we decided to press on anyway to get as far South as possible on Fuerteventura before we cross over to Gran Canaria.
It’s a bit dull motoring but we let Greta take the strain and Kevin tried out some squid lures in everlasting hope.

David demonstrated netting that we can use for veg etc on the ARC. If the winds stay as variable as they are we may need extra supplies!

Chugging along the coast, the wind eventually freshened to 6 knots so we switched off the engine and tried sailing.

All good, and then the wind veered and continued to strengthen getting up to gusts of 13 knots – very nice, we were soon sailing happily putting in a few tacks at around 6 knots with the main and stay sail who we have now christened Stacey.
The only hazards here are the fast cat-ferries that we were careful to look out for. It’s incredibly deep – at just a half mile off shore it’s over 900m!

We aren’t anchoring tonight as we need supplies, so we moored in the half-built marina in Morro Jable – it’s going to be big when it’s finished – another option for boats to wait up for the ARC.

Kevin kindly tramped off to get supplies – the town’s a bit of a walk away – and we enjoyed some fresh fish at the local restaurant.

Tomorrow also looks calm with stronger winds expected on Saturday, so we will wait til then to cross to Las Palmas. We just heard that the ARC + (which goes via Cape Verde) has been postponed due to a depression expected on Sunday – this gives me confidence that they won’t set us off into a storm either!

Kevin’s photos of flying fish are certainly the best I have ever seen. Thank you!
