Bird life

Monday 2 November

Lanzarote

Another day on the dock – we are now finishing jobs and getting ready for sailing tomorrow.

Sam tidying the foredeck

I am still ill so Kevin has kindly taken over: (he likes to refer to himself in the 3rd person)

It was an early start for the birdwatcher, Kevin, who rented a bike and headed north to Salinas de Janubio. A beautiful location but, it turned out the salt pans are still in operation so not much bird life!

The route back along the coast was a bit more successful with sightings of Yellow-legged Gulls:

Note the red ring round the eye

The endemic Berthelot’s Pipit:

Ruddy Shelducks, (sorry no photo) and Ruddy Turnstones in winter plumage:

Kevin was back to La Bamba in time for another winch deconstruct, clean, and reconstruct operation. 1.5hrs on the stop clock so, he’s been promoted from Rookie Grade to Junior Grade!

Easy when you know how!

Meanwhile Sam and David put tools away, got the cutter ready and filled up with water as we set sail tomorrow!
