Thursday 11 July

The day promised sea breezes and we set off down the rock strewn channel looking forward to a South Westerly cruise to the little island of Vrango just South of Gothenburg.

After some lovely tacks the wind died roughly 3 hours in. So, not to miss a beat, we put up our virgin gennaker – for non-sailors this is a bigger, lighter foresail that makes the boat go faster off the wind in lighter airs.

Our gennaker flew perfectly immediately, but sadly the wind refused to strengthen; the sun shone down and after hanging around an island with a very remarkable wigwam from various different directions, for several eons, we gave up and motored on towards the shipping lane out of Gothenburg.

Many giant ships sat motionless, enjoying the free parking well outside the docks, but a couple were actually moving.

Soon we were negotiating the rocky channel towards the tiny island of Vrango.

We moored bows-to which means we have to ‘walk the plank’ across the bowsprit to get off. I require assistance from my gallant crew!
There really is no wind, maybe we will enjoy this peaceful playground until the wind fills in!

And there is truly excellent fishy food here! We had a yummy meal followed by an awesome sunset. Enjoy the photos!
