Racing with Dolphins

Roscoff to Aber-Wrach 35nm

Monday 20 July

Only Lily can make a dolphin turn pink!

Well, what can I say – today we had perfect champagne sailing (sans champagne!) –

We left when the ripping tide was slack, up into wind at first:

Tipping up for once
Mark enjoyed the new angle

We very soon turned left, put up Lily The Pink and enjoyed a flat sea and a wind of 12-17knts – perfect sailing along the beautiful Breton coast –

We all love Lily!

I’ll let the photos and video speak for themselves!

These boys!
Doesn’t get much better than this!
Then we got visitors!
Anyone know what sort this is?
9 knots feels good
They enjoyed racing the bow

And arrived safely in Aber-Wrach (pronounced Aber-Rack) – after a bit of an issue with the engine. In the approach the wind picked up to 23 knots as we entered the deep channel.

Very rocky here
Approaching the river entrance
Lots of activity in the river
Rafted up safely onto Ernestina

Aber-Wrach has a plaque to remember the 23 young men aged 16-20 who sailed from here in 1940 to answer De Gaul’s plea for French fighters to join him in England where they joined the Free French army.

Sam, David and I wandered round the corner to the Bay of Angels where there is a charming old abbey and a very nice restaurant facing the sunset where we enjoyed une petite planche.

Baie des Anges – idyllic!
Vive la Bretagne!
À demain, bonsoir

  2. Hi Ele et al

Fabulous -‘hope to get this limerick in first!

Without paint nor crayons nor ink,
And before it was time for a drink,
    When they spotted Lily
    The dolphins went silly
Calling “Wow, race this prow and turn pink!”

  3. It was a magical day at sea. Perfect sailing, playful dolphins racing alongside La Bamba, and another stunning Breton destination, it’s hard to imagine a better combination. Thank you for sharing these beautiful moments and the local history that makes each stop so special. Wishing you calm seas, reliable engines, and many more unforgettable encounters with dolphins. ⛵🐬🌅
