Birthday Boy!

Sunday 1 November

Lanzarote

Today is David’s birthday! And he had the perfect day doing boat jobs followed by sushi with the crew.

Birthday cards!

David received lovely handmade cards from our Ukrainian ‘grandchildren’ Makar and Mykyta – thank you both – we all enjoyed the encouraging messages about David’s great age 🙂

School buddy Kevin marks the day!

Kevin spoiled his captain with birthday champagne, croissants and Belgian chocolates. He also did a great rendition of Happy Birthday in Danish which sadly I have no video of!

Unfortunately I’ve come down with a nasty cold – despite getting the flu and Covid jabs in an effort to dodge disease! – and so I’m not much use.

Fortunately Kevin is very useful and has learned the ropes winch-wise – and it only took him 2 and a half hours to do one of the main sheet winches (it’s the putting them back together again!)

David replaced his emergency bow roller with the one we brought from home.

And he’s put some protection on the bow for when we use the anchor snubber which can chafe and leave marks. It’s not pretty but it’s practical for now until we find a better solution.

Anti-chafe tape

It rained today which was a surprise, but it meant working on the boat wasn’t hot and sticky like usual.

Stay sail back up

David also got the stay sail up although it needs an adjustment.

We were delighted to welcome Sam back onboard La Bamba! He is now with us for the duration as he is quarter of our ARC crew.

Canaries crew complete!

We had a lovely sushi dinner with probably a bit too much wine. I think the boys may have had a wee bit of birthday rum but I went to bed as I am suffering with a thick head. Looks like we will be here tomorrow too as I’m not sure Captain will be up for sailing ….

A mañana!
