Back on board!

Lanzarote 29-30 October

Nice and shiny!

On Thursday we flew back to Lanzarote to rejoin La Bamba, who was waiting patiently exactly where we left her on the dock. We put the shades up straightaway because it’s hot here.

She’s nice and clean and not covered in Sahara sand like many of the other boats because we’ve had her cleaned a couple of times while we were away.

The plane only takes 4 hours but it still seemed a long way that we had sailed our little boat this summer – over 2000 nautical miles from Lymington.

Flying over we saw dormant volcanos on Lanzarote

I had been very happy about the stuff we had taken off the boat when we left her in September, but we seem to be returning with a lot more!

We have the new tension coil for Lily the Pink for starters and on Friday we had a go at putting it on. We got the old one off no problem, but the wind picked up a little and so we are waiting for it to drop to rewind her onto the new one, as we hoist the sail to do this.

This is the new one
And this is what’s wrong with the old one!
Another headsail

We have also brought the genneker with us – she’s another downwind headsail that we have only used a couple of times because Lily is so much nicer. However if anything else happens to Lily, God forbid, the genneker will fill that hole better than the Yankee. However that means less room in the sail locker for Zigzags and fenders…

Make do and mend!

My job was changing the cover on the horseshoe, which was wearing away from UV light and covered in Sahara sand. It came apart in my hand -so I glued it back together with sikaflex and spinnaker tape!

Lovely empty pool!

We also have the reinforced fittings for the vang and David carefully got it back on while I went for a swim. I’ve never been in a marina that has a pool before – very civilised. David joined me after his vang success.

That’s the vang back on!

David also cleaned and oiled his tools – a perennial task on a boat as salt is very corrosive.

The boat is now very messy again, and we are a bit grimy, but that means progress is being made!

David has made some changes to the blog which should make videos work better and you can now look back over our earlier adventures in a better chronological order. Clicking ‘Home’ will always get you to the latest post and if you scroll down you’ll find a prompt where you can fill in your email address to receive updates. It’s with the comments area if you’re on a phone or on the right hand side if you’re on a landscape tablet or computer.

¡Hasta la próxima!
