Lymington May 2-5

We have spent a few days on the dock doing jobs while others go out sailing. This doesn’t bother us as we are going to get a lot of miles under our hull later this year!
David has spent many days getting very frustrated installing an auto helm update (aka Greta 2). When he installed the first unit it looked like it was happy but then wouldn’t talk to the rudder sensor despite every configuration he could think of. After getting as much advice as possible from B&G tech support, they said it was likely the unit so we sent it back (apparently this happens) and after 6 weeks we got another one.

Guess what, yes, exactly the same thing happened! No joy! But we all know David isn’t one to be defeated. So after trying ‘one last time’, David tried yet another last time and found the bug! You basically have to tell it not to look at the rudder and then look at it again- in exactly the right order. Very coy! Anyway we now have a working autohelm update – although we do have to try her on the water!
Meanwhile I put the anti slip patches on our shiny deck. They will look grey over time, but they are practical.

David has also got the emergency rudder set up and perfectly stowed in the lazarette. This is incase the Orcas get us…

David has labelled the MOB button – another safety feature we never want to have to use!

We tested the emergency pump and David has a new system that means we can use Zigzags’ battery in an emergency too. (That’s as technical as I get)
We have also sent our life jackets to be checked. Safety first!

Meanwhile we also enjoyed the signs of new life on the sea wall. All the summer visitors are back now – terns, swallows, warblers etc
