Gijòn to Ribadeo 61nm

Our first day without crew since we left the UK and no wind whatsoever.
At least we didn’t subject anyone else to the dull motor down a sunless coast for 11 hours.
We were however very lucky to see a very friendly pod of dolphins.
We have our Orca deterrent out but the dolphins certainly weren’t put off by it.
Hopefully it will work on Orcas – there have been a few attacks not far away recently.
I think it’s supposed to work like those teenager deterrents that do an annoying high noise that only young people can hear – this does the equivalent for bored teenage Orcas. Don’t know if it works but we didn’t see any fortunately.
The sea was pretty flat and the skies mostly gloomy – the wind didn’t get above 5 knts and from no direction that was discernable.
We took it in turns to relax.
When we arrived at the river for Ribadeo there were lots of beautiful felucca type boats enjoying a gentle race in light winds.
We had to go under a bridge for the first time since coming back from Sweden. It’s a bit unnerving.
We took the very handy lift up to the bustling and happy old town on the hill.
And enjoyed local sea food and some very hot padron peppers – only a few were super hot – a bit like Russian roulette!
A bit like sailing in Orca territory….
