Five tacks to Oporto

Póvoa de Vazim to Oporto 19nm

Saturday 21 August

We are crewless again!

Sunny!

But at least we have 12 knots of wind – as the forecast was for none.

Beating for once

However it is coming from exactly where we are headed, so it’s a beat down the coast zigzagging through the lobster pots.

It’s only 17 miles so it doesn’t take very long.

Past the refinery

And it’s a beautiful day

The dolphins came to say hello!

They love to play at the bow
David’s new camera is pretty cool!
Approaching Oporto

We arrived in the marina on the Douro river (about 3 miles downstream from the city) in the little fishing village of Afurada.

The marina staff were very helpful and told us that the best restaurant is Taberna São Pedro, so we went there for amazing grilled fish.

Angela said we keep saying what nice food we are eating but there aren’t any photos – this is usually because we are so hungry! However these are for you Angie xx

Before
After!

The sardines were particularly good. And the live music reminded us of our Portuguese friends.

David made friends with the bbq staff – of course.

These guys were working hard!

And we had our first port – a delicious white one!

Pudding & port

I did the laundry, but I used the modern machines not the laundry pools!

Laundry like in the old days!

Now we will clean the boat, visit the town and get ready for our big crossing to Madeira!
