Viveiro to À Coruña 55nm
Friday 7 August
20 knots of wind was forecast and we got quite excited, but leaving the bay at Viveiro we had to motor to get out.
Even then the wind was only up to 12-14 knots, dead behind us, just enough to cruise along goose wing.
It died and we had to motor for a few hours, but then it filled in from ahead so we could use the Yankee and the Stay sail to whizz along at 7 knots.
We have our deterrant out for the orcas, we saw some dolphins but not close.
By the time we approached A Coruña we were back to goose wing again. We didn’t use Lily because the wind was too much from dead behind, and she doesn’t like that so much. Also we have no crew and can get quite lazy!
It was very exciting arriving in À Coruña because we are going to meet up with Frances and Angela and friends for Frances’ birthday which is on the same day as the total solar eclipse!
We are very happy that we have made our target a day early, we are on schedule!
À Coruña seems a lovely town and La Bamba is moored in the friendly Real Marina right by the old town.
The huge square is set up for the free events but it seemed one was just finishing as we arrived. We did find Astérix and Obelix though!
We enjoyed delicious Spanish tapas and rice al fresco. The old town looks like it’s going to be fun to explore. So lovely to be in Spain.
